Zulum Rewards Anambra Nurse Who Has Worked in Borno for 20 Years with House and Job Offer for Her Son

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has rewarded Mrs. Marbel Ijeoma Duaka, a nurse from Anambra State, with a fully furnished two-bedroom house in recognition of her 24 years of dedicated service at the Primary Healthcare Centre in Mafa. The governor also offered her son, Anthony, a graduate of Banking and Finance, automatic employment at the state-owned Kashim Ibrahim University, Maiduguri.

Presenting the house keys to Mrs. Duaka, Governor Zulum praised her resilience and commitment, noting that she remained in Mafa throughout the Boko Haram insurgency when many residents fled the area. “She has been working here for over 24 years and has never left Mafa for a single month. During the crisis, most people fled the town, but she stayed throughout the conflict despite being a non-indigene,” Zulum said. He added that Mrs. Duaka had treated several members of his family, including his mother.

The governor directed that the allocation letter for the house be issued in her name, urging her to continue residing in Mafa even after retirement. “Your son, Anthony, will be given automatic employment at Kashim Ibrahim University, Maiduguri. His employment starts with immediate effect,” he announced.

Mrs. Duaka was among 72 teachers and health workers who received housing units at a ceremony inaugurated by the governor in Mafa Local Government Area on Tuesday.

Expressing her gratitude, Mrs. Duaka described the gesture as the happiest moment of her life. “Today is the happiest day for me because His Excellency has honoured me and appreciated what I have been doing in Mafa. He provided me with a scholarship to study BSc in Health Education, and today he has given my son a job and given me a house. I am truly grateful,” she said.

Governor Zulum’s gesture continues his record of recognizing exceptional non-indigenous workers in the state. In October 2022, he similarly rewarded Mrs. Obiageli Mazi, a teacher from Abia State, with a house for her dedication and punctuality after 31 years of service in Borno.
