Zamfara PDP Chairman Defects to APC, Says Party ‘Dead’

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara has formally received Sadiq Abubakar, chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, following his defection from the opposition party. The move was confirmed in a statement on Monday by APC Publicity Secretary Malam Yusuf Idris in Gusau, who described the defection as a “welcome development” reflecting the growing strength and appeal of the ruling party in the state.

Abubakar, who announced his exit from the PDP on Sunday in Kaura Namoda, stated, “The PDP is dead in Zamfara. The party has been weakened by serious crises at the national level, and it is no longer a viable platform for effective leadership in the state.”

He was received at the APC Secretariat in Kaura Namoda by former state APC chairman Lawal Liman and the local APC chairman, Alhaji Sule Gabake. Liman assured the defectors of fair treatment within the party, emphasizing that the APC in Zamfara under the leadership of Senator AbdulAziz Yari and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, was committed to peace, stability, and progress.

“The APC remains a party of unity and growth,” Liman said. “We welcome all members who share our vision for a stronger and more prosperous Zamfara. Everyone will be treated fairly and given the opportunity to contribute to the development of our party and our state.”

Abubakar expressed optimism about his new political home, saying, “I am confident that my decision to join the APC will allow me to work effectively for the people of Kaura Namoda and support the party’s agenda for progress in Zamfara.”
