Young Family of Four Perishes in U.S. Plane Crash

A young family from Virginia was among the victims of the tragic American Airlines crash in Washington, DC, on Wednesday night.

Peter and Donna Livingston, along with their daughters, 11-year-old Alydia and 14-year-old Everly, were returning home to Ashburn from Wichita, Kansas. The sisters had just competed in the 2025 US Figure Skating Championships.

The crash of Flight 5342 claimed the lives of all four family members. Family friend Kim Urban described the Livingstons as a loving and vibrant family, with Donna deeply involved in her daughters’ skating and Peter passionate about hockey. “They were extraordinarily supportive parents,” Urban told CNN. “Alydia and Everly were talented skaters, bright, and full of energy.”

The girls shared a final post on their joint Instagram account while at the Intrust Bank Arena, where the championships took place. Posing together, they captioned the photo: “We were born ready for this, but is @usfigureskating ready for this much Livingston at Nationals?”

Everly had big dreams in the sport. In a 2023 interview with Fox News, she expressed her aspirations to compete for Team USA and travel the world.

The Livingstons were among 67 people who lost their lives when the American Airlines flight collided with a US Army Black Hawk helicopter. Recovery efforts continued Friday morning, with at least 28 bodies recovered from the icy waters of the Potomac River, including three soldiers aboard the helicopter.

Among the 60 passengers on the flight were 14 figure skaters, including six members of the Skating Club of Boston, along with parents and coaches.
