You Will Receive Your N77,000 Monthly Stipend, NYSC DG Assures Corps Members
The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed Dogara, has reiterated the organization’s stance on zero tolerance for protests and indiscipline among corps members. Speaking during a visit to the temporary orientation camp in Kaduna, Dogara highlighted that in the past three months, several corps members had attempted to protest, which led to disciplinary actions being taken against them. He emphasized that the NYSC bylaws clearly define the consequences of indiscipline, and corps members must adhere to these rules, similar to the expectations in the Army and Police.
Dogara also expressed concerns over the safety of corps members, particularly during night journeys, which he noted have been hazardous. He warned that such trips have led to accidents and kidnappings, resulting in the loss of several corps members. The DG stressed that one of his top priorities is ensuring the security and welfare of corps members, urging them to avoid night travel to reduce the risks involved.
In a positive development, Dogara announced that the government has approved a significant increase in the monthly allowance for corps members. The allowance will be doubled from N33,000 to N77,000, with the increase expected to take effect once necessary processes, including cash backing, are completed. The DG reassured corps members that the NYSC consistently approaches the government for allowance increments and that the response has always been positive.
