“You Don’t Need to Win All the Fights; Sometimes You Just Let Go for the Good of Rivers State” — Fubara to Wike
Governor Siminalayi Fubara has called on his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, to relinquish any perceived control over Rivers State to foster peace in the oil-rich region. During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today program, Fubara expressed his determination to move forward, stating that he has no regrets about conducting local government elections in the state despite facing resistance from members of Wike’s camp within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I have all the guts to do these things,” Fubara asserted, challenging Wike to release any hold he believes he maintains over the state. He emphasized his commitment to peace, noting the efforts he has made to maintain harmony, including ongoing discussions with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“There is nothing I have not done on this earth for peace to reign. I can tell you the number of times I have knelt down to beg that we allow this issue to go. I have done everything,” Fubara said.
When asked what he would communicate to Wike in a meeting, the governor responded, “I’ll tell him that it has gotten to a point where he needs to let go. We need peace in this state.”
Fubara urged Wike to recognize that not every battle needs to be won. “Sometimes, you just let go for the sake of the good people of Rivers State and the love that you have always professed for the state. We need to secure the state.”
He added, “Fubara will leave tomorrow. Who knows who is going to come? It might be through him or through another person, but we need to secure the state.”
