Yahaya Bello: Wanted by EFCC, Unwanted by Daniel Bwala’s Analysis!

Daniel Bwala, the former spokesperson for the now-defunct Atiku-Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, has voiced his opinion regarding the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) decision to declare former Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State wanted, deeming it unnecessary.

Bwala conveyed his stance through an official statement released via his verified social media handle on Friday. Expressing his views, he questioned the necessity of the EFCC’s action, emphasizing that the commission possessed ample resources to apprehend Bello without resorting to a public declaration of his wanted status.

Drawing a comparison, Bwala highlighted the disparity in treatment between Bello and former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, questioning why the EFCC failed to employ similar tactics as in Okorocha’s case.

Bwala further pointed out that Bello’s whereabouts were not shrouded in secrecy, given his security detail and the surveillance capabilities of law enforcement agencies. Despite this, the EFCC reportedly failed to utilize available means to locate and apprehend him.

The backdrop to this development stems from the EFCC’s declaration of Bello as wanted in connection with an alleged money laundering case amounting to N80.2 billion. Despite a raid on Bello’s residence in Abuja, the EFCC faced obstacles in effecting his arrest, prompting considerations of involving the Nigerian Army in the operation.

Notably, Bello’s successor, Governor Usman Ododo, intervened during the raid, enabling Bello to evade arrest. Since then, Bello’s whereabouts have remained unknown, leading to the EFCC’s decision to officially declare him wanted.
