Workers Accuse Federal Government of Betrayal Over N35,000 Wage Award

The Federal Workers Forum (FWF) has voiced concerns over the discontinuation of the N35,000 wage award initially granted by the Federal Government to alleviate the economic strains resulting from the fuel subsidy removal.

Workers, feeling the brunt of the ongoing economic crisis, have alleged that the Federal Government fulfilled only one month out of the promised six months of the wage award. National Coordinator of FWF, Comrade Andrew Emelieze, expressed these grievances in a statement provided to newsmen.

Emelieze highlighted the hardships faced by federal workers since the removal of the fuel subsidy, emphasizing that despite soaring living costs and the devaluation of the naira, the minimum wage has stagnated at N30,000 monthly. He lamented the discrepancy between the promised relief and the actual disbursement, stating, “We the federal government workers feel betrayed by the federal government. Our employer has been very unfair and unfaithful to us.”

The statement underscored the financial strain on civil servants, citing delayed salaries, blocked payments, and unresolved promotion arrears. Emelieze concluded by urging fair treatment for federal workers, stating, “We are citizens, we are not beggars, and we are supposed to be worthy of a fair wage. We the federal workers feel cheated.”

This development adds to the ongoing challenges faced by workers amidst economic uncertainties, leaving many questioning the government’s commitment to addressing the plight of its workforce.
