Woman Declared Brain Dead Comes Back to Life After Ambulance Hits Pothole on Way to Funeral
In a startling incident in Uttar Pradesh, India, a woman declared brain dead by doctors regained consciousness after the ambulance carrying her to her funeral hit a pothole.
Vinita Shukla, a head copyist at the Pilibhit district court, fell seriously ill at her home. Her husband, Kuldeep Shukla, first took her to a government hospital, which referred her to Bareilly for advanced medical care. She was admitted to a private hospital and placed on ventilator support.
Kuldeep said the doctors informed him that Vinita had no chance of survival and was effectively brain dead. They advised the family to take her home, warning that removing her from the ventilator would confirm the outcome. Despite requesting an extra night of treatment, Kuldeep was told the following morning that there was no hope. Preparations for Vinita’s last rites began at her family home in Pilibhit.
While transporting Vinita back in an ambulance, the vehicle hit a pothole near Hafizganj, jolting everyone inside. The family was shocked to notice signs of life in Vinita. She was rushed to a private hospital in Pilibhit, where she was examined and treated.
Neurosurgeon Dr. Rakesh Singh said Vinita may have been suffering from a snake bite. She was given anti-venom along with other treatments, and her condition began to improve within 24 hours. She was also referred to neurology specialists in Lucknow for further care.
After nearly two weeks of treatment, Vinita made a full recovery and has returned home. Her family described the incident as a miracle, while the medical team received widespread praise for their prompt action and diagnosis.
