Woman Arrested for Allegedly Beating 3-Year-Old Granddaughter to Death
In a deeply unsettling case of alleged child abuse, Denise Johnson, a 56-year-old woman from Pennsylvania, has been arrested and charged in connection with the tragic death of her 3-year-old granddaughter, Ayla Miller.
Law enforcement officials report that Johnson inflicted a severe beating on the young child before leaving her in bed, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries. Authorities were alerted on September 1 when Pittsburgh police .responded to a call around 11:30 a.m. regarding a “suspicious death” at a residence. Upon arrival, officers discovered Ayla unresponsive and “cold to the touch.”
Court documents reveal that Johnson faces multiple charges, including criminal homicide, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, corruption of minors, and abuse of a corpse. The charges stem from the severe injuries found on Ayla’s body, including trauma to her neck, hip, face, and what appeared to be a cigarette burn on her ankle.
During the investigation, Johnson reportedly admitted to striking Ayla, causing her to fall and sustain a head injury. Despite the child’s unresponsiveness, Johnson did not seek medical help, later admitting that she was too afraid to do so. According to the criminal complaint, Johnson confessed during a phone call after Ayla’s body was discovered, acknowledging that she had punched the child and kept her in bed for several days until she died.
Adding to the horror, another child in the home told police they witnessed Johnson beating Ayla with a wooden stick until the girl could no longer move. The child also reported that Johnson had used a belt to continue the assault.
Johnson is currently being held without bond, with no attorney listed in court records.
