“Witches and Wizards Made Me Spend Extra Months in My Mother’s Womb” – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed that his mother carried him in her womb for 12 months, attributing the extended pregnancy to a battle with “witches and wizards.”

Obasanjo shared this revelation during the 66th remembrance event for his mother, Mama Bernice Obasanjo, held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Cinema Hall in Abeokuta.

Reflecting on his mother’s life, Obasanjo expressed regret that she did not live to see his achievements. He revealed that out of nine children, only he and his sister survived. “I was told I was in her womb for 12 months, and since I was born I have not been left for once,” he said. Despite his father’s belief that educating a female child was unnecessary, Obasanjo was the only one who attended school.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by Deputy Governor Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, highlighted the crucial role mothers play in society. He praised Mama Obasanjo’s enduring influence through her children, especially Chief Obasanjo, a significant figure in Nigeria’s history.

The governor lauded the musical drama “Aremu Omo Asabi,” performed in Mama Obasanjo’s honor, as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices mothers make. He emphasized the importance of supporting mothers and creating environments where their hopes for their children can flourish. “This is why the present administration continues to pursue policies ensuring access to quality education, healthcare, and opportunities for all,” he said.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Secretary to Lagos State Government Mrs. Salu Hundeyin, commended Obasanjo for honoring his mother after 66 years. He stressed that mothers are special instruments in the hands of God and man, deserving of respect and honor.
