Wike Visits China to Finalize Water Supply Project for FCT Satellite Towns
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has traveled to China to engage in a series of official meetings focused on improving water supply for the satellite towns of the FCT. The Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, confirmed in a statement on Thursday that Wike made a brief stop in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before continuing his journey to China.
During his visit, Wike is scheduled to meet with officials from the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction (CGCOC) Group, a key partner in the ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure in the FCT. The move follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in September 2024, during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to China, with both the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and CGCOC Group. The agreements were aimed at enhancing electricity and water supply in the capital territory.
President Tinubu has long emphasized the importance of these projects, viewing them as a critical part of his administration’s effort to provide people-oriented services that meet the needs of FCT residents. As part of this commitment, the President recently approved ₦50 billion for the provision of potable water to the satellite towns of Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Kuje Area Councils.
Wike’s trip to China is aligned with the President’s directive to ensure that water is provided to these communities, and his meetings with CGCOC Group are expected to play a key role in moving the project forward. The Minister is expected to return to Nigeria next week following his engagements in China.
