Why You Should Stop Smoking Shisha – PSN
The Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) in Edo State, Mr. Chris Osagiede, has issued a stark warning to youths about the dangers of smoking shisha. Addressing journalists, Osagiede highlighted the increasing trend of shisha use among young people, particularly young women, in various social settings including birthday parties, social gatherings, and clubs.
Osagiede described shisha smoking as a form of drug abuse and a “silent killer.” He emphasized the urgent need for government intervention to address the broader issue of drug abuse in the country. “The earlier the government tackles the issue of drug abuse, the better for the country,” he stated.
According to Osagiede, many shisha drinks contain hard drugs, leading to addiction. “Yes, they will tell you what they are taking is shisha, but to the unsuspecting ladies, they don’t know they are gradually addicted to hard drugs, and it will get to a time if they don’t take shisha, they will not be normal as addiction has set in,” he explained.
He also pointed out the health risks associated with sharing shisha pipes, including the transmission of diseases such as hepatitis and other viral infections. “It’s a social menace and a burden to some families. Some very rich families are contending with their children constantly on drugs, trying to take them off that addiction,” Osagiede noted.
