“Why We Are Confident of Victory at Tribunal” – Edo PDP

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed strong confidence in winning its case at the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja. According to the party’s chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, their petition challenging the September 21, 2024, victory of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, is backed by indisputable evidence and credible witnesses.

“Our petition is in a class of its own,” Aziegbemi stated in Benin. “I am confident that PDP and its governorship candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, will be declared winners of the election because of the evidence we have presented.”

He explained that PDP’s case focuses strictly on over-voting, with certified documents from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) proving that the number of votes cast exceeded the number of accredited voters in several polling units. He added that their claims are supported by extracts from the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

“If the law states that results must be canceled where over-voting is confirmed, and we have certified documents proving this happened, then our case is solid,” Aziegbemi said. “Even the only witness presented by Okpebholo at the tribunal admitted there was over-voting in Ovia Southwest Local Government. That testimony validates our claims of over-voting in 133 polling units.”

He urged party members to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them that the party’s petition stands on firm legal grounds. The tribunal, led by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, continues its proceedings today.
