“Who Has Turned Rivers State Into a Private Estate?” – Wike Fires Back at Odili
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has accused former Rivers State Governor Peter Odili of using his influence to turn the state into a family-controlled domain. Wike’s remarks were in response to Odili’s claims that Governor Simi Fubara had resisted Wike’s attempts to dominate Rivers politics and turn the state into his personal estate.
In a statement released by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, Wike questioned Odili’s credibility, pointing to the prominent roles held by members of Odili’s family in Rivers State government. “Between him and myself, who has turned Rivers State into a private estate?” Wike asked. “His wife is a Chairman of Governing Council, his daughter is a commissioner, his other daughter is a judge, and he is the General Overseer.”
Wike went further to allege nepotism in Odili’s appointments, claiming that Odili had recommended his daughter for a commissioner position instead of his late elder brother’s son. “Someone who didn’t stand for the son of his late elder brother, is that an elder statesman?” Wike questioned.
