“When I Was Being Impeached, Obasanjo Sent Emissaries to Plead; Now, President Tinubu Is Orchestrating a Governor’s Removal” – Peter Obi

Former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, has drawn a sharp contrast between his impeachment experience and the current political turmoil in Rivers State, accusing President Bola Tinubu of orchestrating the suspension of key officials in the state.

Obi recalled that during his tenure as governor, when he faced impeachment, then-President Olusegun Obasanjo intervened to prevent it by sending emissaries to appeal to the Anambra State House of Assembly. He contrasted this with the present situation, where he claims President Tinubu is actively pushing for the removal of elected officials.

“I became governor through the court when President Obasanjo and Atiku were in office. I did not pay the court a single naira. I was in my office when the court declared me the winner. When I was being impeached, the president sent people to intervene on my behalf, pleading with the House not to impeach me. Today, the president is impeaching the person,” Obi said.

His remarks come in response to the recent State of Emergency declared in Rivers State by President Tinubu and the subsequent suspension of the governor, deputy governor, and members of the state House of Assembly.
