Weeks After Staff Honoured Him for Exemplary Leadership, Wike Sacks FCT-IRS Acting Chairman
Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has removed Michael Ango from his position as acting chairman of the FCT Internal Revenue Service. The announcement was issued on Friday by Lere Olayinka, the minister’s aide on public communication and social media.
According to the statement, the most senior official in the agency has been directed to immediately assume leadership of the revenue service. No reason was given for Ango’s dismissal.
Ango’s appointment as acting chairman was approved in August 2024 by President Bola Tinubu, who at the time highlighted his experience in revenue administration, financial management, and organisational leadership.
The decision to remove him comes barely weeks after FCT-IRS staff held an event titled “A Night with Ango,” where he was celebrated for what they described as visionary leadership, commitment to staff development, and efforts to strengthen transparency and institutional reforms within the agency.
