“We made a mistake electing you” – Constituents Initiate Recall of APC Rep from NASS

The constituents of Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji in Zamfara State have initiated the process to recall their National Assembly representative, Aminu Sani Jaji. This move follows his suspension by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and aligns with Section 69 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The recall effort gained momentum after Jaji, a member of the House of Representatives for the Kaura Namoda/Birnin Magaji Federal Constituency, was suspended by the Birnin Magaji Ward Executive of the APC. This suspension was subsequently upheld by both the Birnin Magaji Local Government Area Executive and the APC State Working Committee in Zamfara State.

The constituents are set to formally request recall forms from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Gusau, Zamfara State, highlighting a lack of effective representation as the primary reason for their action.

A statement issued by Bello Mahmud Birnin Magaji and Comrade Mustapha Ibrahi, representing the constituents, outlines numerous grievances. The statement cites Jaji’s failure to address the severe security issues in the region, which has been plagued by frequent attacks from armed bandits, resulting in deaths, kidnappings, and widespread displacement.

The statement also criticizes Jaji for not visiting or supporting internally displaced persons and for failing to fulfill his electoral promises. The constituents accuse Jaji of contributing to the factionalization of the party and undermining President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies.

Highlighting the need for more effective representation, the statement calls on the community to support the recall. “Hon. Jaji has never thought it appropriate to visit the internally displaced persons to sympathize with them, let alone providing relief materials to alleviate their sufferings,” the statement read.

The constituents argue that Jaji’s actions have led to further insecurity and underdevelopment in the area, and they are now seeking a lawmaker who can provide competent and compassionate leadership.
