‘We Have Not Received Any Money’ — Rasheedah Ajibade Says Tinubu Yet To Fulfil $100,000 WAFCON Promise

Super Falcons forward Rasheedah Ajibade has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is yet to fulfill its \$100,000 cash reward promise to each player of Nigeria’s senior women’s football team for their triumph at the 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. Speaking in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Ajibade said neither she nor her teammates had received the pledged sum, nor other bonuses and allowances promised after the victory. “We have not received that money. They haven’t paid. Hopefully, they will pay. Please, they have not paid all the promises you heard back and forth,” she said, adding that players were still “begging” for what was due to them.

In July, Tinubu approved the naira equivalent of $100,000 for each of the 24 players and $50,000 for each member of the 11-man technical crew, alongside the award of a three-bedroom flat to every player and staff member. The President also conferred national honours on the team, describing their performance as “awe-inspiring” and commending their sportsmanship after visiting injured South African player Gabriela Salgado following a semi-final win. The Falcons went on to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in the final.

Tinubu made a similar pledge to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, after their 78-64 victory over Mali in the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket final, promising each player $100,000 and each technical crew member $50,000, along with national honours. Both teams, however, are still awaiting the fulfilment of these promises.
