“We Are Building a Self-Growing City on the Moon” – Elon Musk
SpaceX founder Elon Musk revealed on X on Monday that the company is shifting its focus from Mars to the Moon, aiming to establish a “self-growing city” there within the next decade.
Musk highlighted the advantages of lunar missions, explaining that launches to the Moon can occur roughly every 10 days with a two-day travel time, compared with Mars missions, which are limited to every 26 months and require about six months of transit.
“The mission of SpaceX remains the same: to extend consciousness and life as we know it to the stars,” Musk wrote. “We can iterate much faster on the Moon than on Mars. That said, SpaceX will continue working toward a Mars city, expected to begin in five to seven years, but the Moon is the faster path to securing the future of civilization.”
