Viral Video of Delta Governor, Cabinet Members Singing Pro-Tinubu Anthem Is Old, Says Aide Amid Defection Rumours

A video showing Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori being serenaded with the tune “On Your Mandate”—a chant popularized by President Bola Tinubu—has sparked speculation about the governor’s political future. The footage, which has gone viral, features Oborevwori smiling and clapping along as members of his cabinet sing the song during an indoor gathering.

The clip has fueled rumours that Oborevwori, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), may be considering a defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election. Adding to the speculation is a separate video showing former Delta governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Oborevwori’s predecessor, assuring constituents that the political direction to be taken will be “the best path for our people”—a comment that some interpret as a nod to potential political realignment.

However, a close aide to Governor Oborevwori dismissed the speculation, stating anonymously that the video in question is not recent. According to the aide, it was recorded after the Supreme Court affirmed the governor’s election victory and has no bearing on current political calculations.

The viral footage comes amid growing tensions within the PDP. On April 15, party chieftain Ose Anenih criticized PDP governors, claiming they lack the courage to challenge President Tinubu in 2027. He described the governors’ recent rejection of a proposed merger or coalition as “hubristic” and disconnected from political realities.

Media personality Dele Momodu echoed these sentiments during an appearance on Arise Television, suggesting that some PDP governors may be covertly supporting Tinubu. He argued that no opposition party could unseat the president without a united front.

Meanwhile, Umo Eno, the PDP governor of Akwa Ibom, has publicly endorsed President Tinubu for a second term, further highlighting the fractures and shifting allegiances within Nigeria’s political landscape.
