Violent Clash Claims Lives in Plateau as Soldiers, Gunmen Battle in Mangu
Numerous lives were lost when soldiers and gunmen clashed in two villages within the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State on Saturday morning.
The confrontation erupted shortly after Governor Caleb Mutfwang relaxed the 24-hour curfew previously imposed on the region, citing improved security conditions and modifying the curfew to be in effect from 8 am to 4 pm.
Sources have disclosed that the clash unfolded at Satguru and Tyop villages, resulting in the reported death of approximately 30 gunmen. Additionally, some soldiers sustained injuries during the intense exchange.
An anonymous security operative revealed, “The incident occurred between 7 to 7:30 am when the gunmen, numbering significantly, initiated attacks on communities along Gindri road. The soldiers promptly responded, resulting in the death of about 30 gunmen and the arrest of more than 50 individuals armed with guns and ammunition. Four soldiers were also injured.”
Another source from the affected area, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident and expressed that fear still lingers among the residents.
As of now, the spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven, a multi-security taskforce responsible for maintaining peace in the region, is yet to respond to inquiries made by our correspondent. The community remains on edge as the aftermath of this violent clash continues to unfold.
