Vigilante Operative Shoots Fellow Member Dead in Imo
A vigilante operative has allegedly shot and killed his colleague in Ndegwu community, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, October 29, near the Ndegwu Health Centre.
Witnesses said the deceased, identified as Israel Ewuzie, was with other members of the local security team after returning from a funeral security assignment when his colleague, Umunjanwoke Orogwe, allegedly fired the fatal shot around 5:05 p.m.
According to residents, the bullet pierced through a gate and struck Ewuzie in the chest. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival. The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, as accounts from the suspect reportedly conflicted. Initially, he denied firing any shot but later claimed the gun discharged accidentally, not realizing someone was behind the gate.
Police have taken Orogwe into custody as investigations continue into the incident.
