Video: You Are Not in a Position to Question Anyone’s Character — Abati Takes Wike to the Cleaners Over Comment on Obi

Media personality and former presidential spokesperson, Dr. Reuben Abati, has slammed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his latest attack on Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Wike had on Monday, September 1, described Obi as a politician who “lacks character,” warning that his return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would destroy the party. According to Wike, Obi once dismissed the PDP as a “rotten” party, and coming back to seek a platform there would amount to inconsistency.

Speaking on Arise TV the following day, Abati dismissed Wike’s outburst, insisting that the minister himself lacks the moral authority to question anyone’s integrity.

“Wike is not in a position to talk about character. If he wants to talk about character, he should first question his own,” Abati said.

The veteran broadcaster further accused Wike of destabilizing the PDP, not Obi, and pointed out his pattern of public criticism against major political figures.

“He goes on television to say Peter Obi doesn’t have character. But in fact, it is Wike himself that destroyed the PDP. He was talking about Peter Obi, Goodluck Jonathan, Nasir El-Rufai — what gives him that moral high ground to talk recklessly and without decorum?” Abati added.

Abati’s comments come amid growing speculation over whether Obi might consider a political return to the PDP after his 2023 presidential run under the Labour Party. Wike, however, has remained one of Obi’s most vocal critics, fueling renewed debates within the opposition party.
