Video: Wike, Fubara Make First Public Appearance Together After Peace Meeting
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike and suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara made their first public appearance together on Saturday, attending the burial ceremony of Wike’s uncle in Rumuepirikom, Port Harcourt.
Their appearance comes just hours after a late-night peace meeting hosted by President Bola Tinubu in Abuja, where both parties agreed to ease political tensions in Rivers State.
Lere Olayinka, spokesperson to Wike, confirmed the development via an X post, sharing images of Wike, Fubara, and Rivers Assembly Speaker Martins Amaewhule at the burial.
Since 2023, Wike and Fubara have been embroiled in a fierce political feud that fractured the state assembly, led to the demolition of the assembly complex, and prompted President Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in March. Tinubu suspended Fubara and the lawmakers, appointing a sole administrator to govern the state temporarily.
Thursday’s peace talks in Abuja were attended by lawmakers, including Amaewhule, aimed at restoring stability in the state.
