Video: Japan Airlines and Delta Jets Collide at Seattle Airport
A Japan Airlines plane taxiing at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Wednesday morning, February 5, collided with a parked Delta Airlines plane, causing visible damage but no reported injuries.
The incident occurred at 10:17 a.m., according to an airport statement on X. As the Japan Airlines aircraft moved across the tarmac, its wing struck the tail of the stationary Delta plane. Photos shared by passengers on social media showed the Japan Airlines wing slicing deep into the Delta aircraft’s tail.
“So, we were sitting on the tarmac at SeaTac, and another plane ran into us—just casually sliced into our tail. Very scary,” one passenger wrote. Another described the impact as “loud” and said the aircraft was undergoing inspection.
Airport officials stated the collision had “minimal impact” on operations.
The incident comes amid heightened concerns over aviation safety following two major accidents in recent weeks. A deadly collision at Reagan National Airport last week claimed 67 lives when a U.S. Army helicopter struck an American Airlines jet during landing. Days later, a medical transport jet crashed onto a Philadelphia street, killing all six people on board and one on the ground.
