VGC Chairman Found Dead Inside Car in Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command has initiated an investigation following the discovery of a 42-year-old man, Gihan Mbelu, dead in his vehicle in the Lekki area of Lagos. Mbelu, the chairman of the Victoria Garden City (VGC), was found unconscious in his C300 4Matic car at around 10:10 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024.
Eyewitnesses report that the vehicle had been stationary for an extended period, prompting residents to inspect the situation. Upon approaching the car, they found Mbelu unresponsive inside. Although some onlookers initially believed he might be asleep, attempts to wake him proved futile. Recognizing the severity of the situation, local residents transported him to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.
The Lagos State Police Command has begun investigating the circumstances surrounding Mbelu’s death, with his body now at the hospital’s morgue for further examination. Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed on Saturday, April 27, that the police are actively working to determine what happened.
Mbelu leaves behind his wife, Eloho, a tech entrepreneur, former investment banker, and private equity investor, as well as two daughters. The news of his untimely death has sent shockwaves through the VGC community, with friends, family, and colleagues expressing their condolences.
Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses, with the police committed to uncovering the details of this tragic incident.
