Veteran Nollywood Actor Tom Njemanze Dies After Battle with Prostate Cancer

 

Veteran Nollywood actor Tom Njemanze has died following a prolonged battle with prostate cancer. The actor, known for his memorable roles in some of Nollywood’s most iconic films, passed away on Friday. His death was announced on Saturday by filmmaker Stanley Ontop, who had previously shared updates on Njemanze’s health struggles.

 

Stanley Ontop took to Instagram to confirm the sad news, writing, “It’s another sad period as we just received news from Tom Njemanze’s family that he has succumbed to his ailment and passed on yesterday. May his soul RIP. It’s well. We tried to save him Buh God knows best. Nollywood lost another legend. Ije Uwa.”

 

Njemanze rose to prominence in the 1990s and became a familiar face in Nigerian cinema, with standout performances in classics such as *Tokunboh*, *Pounds and Dollars*, *Atosa*, *Issakaba*, *Osuofia in London*, *Brain Box*, and *Igbotic Love*, among others.

 

In the months leading up to his passing, Njemanze’s health challenges were made public through a video shared by Stanley Ontop, in which the actor appealed for financial support to undergo urgent surgery. Despite efforts to raise funds and provide treatment, the actor succumbed to the illness, leaving a legacy that continues to resonate with fans of Nigerian film.
