‘Very Respected Woman’: Trump Praises Remi Tinubu at U.S. National Prayer Breakfast
U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday described Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as a “very respected woman” during remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C.
Speaking to an audience of political and civic leaders from several countries, Trump acknowledged Mrs Tinubu’s presence at the annual faith-based event and referred to her background as a Christian pastor.
“We are honoured to be joined today by the First Lady of Nigeria, who also happens to serve as a Christian pastor at the largest church in Nigeria — a very respected woman. Thank you very much, it’s a great honour, a very respected person too,” Trump said.
His comments drew applause from attendees.
The National Prayer Breakfast, held each February, brings together members of the U.S. Congress, religious leaders, and invited international guests for prayer and discussions on leadership and public service.
Mrs Tinubu’s attendance placed her among a group of global faith and political figures participating in the gathering.
