Venezuela Hit by Multiple Explosions; Government Blames US
CARACAS — Early Saturday, Caracas was shaken by a series of powerful explosions, causing power outages in several neighborhoods and prompting the Venezuelan government to accuse the United States of carrying out military strikes.
At least seven blasts were reported around 2 a.m. local time. Residents described loud booms, low-flying aircraft, and thick smoke rising from multiple parts of the city, including areas near military facilities. Several districts temporarily lost electricity, adding to the disruption.
The Venezuelan government, led by President Nicolás Maduro, called the events an act of “military aggression” and said both civilian and military sites were targeted. Authorities declared a national emergency and ordered the mobilization of defense forces, urging citizens to support national security efforts.
Washington has not confirmed any involvement. While the United States has previously conducted operations against drug trafficking in the country, there is no independent verification linking U.S. forces to the explosions.
