US Returnee Found Dead in Ogun Hotel Room, Police Launch Investigation
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the death of Sunday Abidoye, whose body was found in a hotel room on Wednesday in the Sagamu area of the state.
In a statement issued by the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the incident was reported by the hotel’s Chief Security Officer (CSO), who identified himself as Oluwole. The CSO informed the police that the deceased’s body had been discovered and was being prepared for transport to the morgue by his family.
A police team responded to the scene and found Abidoye’s lifeless body in a car outside the hotel. Odutola explained that the deceased’s brother, Jimoh Godday, who lives in Imota Town, Lagos, had reported that his brother had arrived from the U.S. on Saturday. Godday said he attempted to contact Abidoye on Monday but received no response. Concerned, he visited the hotel, where after several unsuccessful attempts to knock on the door, he asked the hotel manager for a spare key. Upon entering the room, they found Abidoye’s body.
Odutola stated that the police found various drugs and traditional medicine in the room, and the center of the bed was soaked with a liquid-like substance. Additionally, a friend of the deceased, Ogunmonti Ogunwole, confirmed that he had accompanied Abidoye the previous day to purchase multiple medications due to his reported illness.
The body has been sent to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) morgue in Sagamu for an autopsy. The cause of death has not yet been determined, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation.
Odutola urged the public to avoid using medication without proper medical guidance.
