UNTH Deputy Director, Security Guard Freed After Abduction
Ngozi Mba, the Deputy Director of Nursing Services at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) in Enugu, South-East Nigeria, has been liberated from her captors. Mba, who was abducted alongside a hospital security guard last Tuesday within the hospital premises at Ituku Ozalla, along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, was reunited with her family on Thursday evening.
The news of her release was confirmed by the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Boniface Uchelue, in a conversation with AIT.live. While Uchelue disclosed that the security guard was released earlier, he refrained from divulging whether any ransom was exchanged for their freedom.
The development comes in the wake of a protest staged by Mba’s colleagues on Thursday, who ceased all medical services at the hospital to demand her release. Carrying placards with various messages, the nurses vowed to continue their strike until Mba was safely returned. Their determination bore fruit as hours later, Mba was set free by her kidnappers.
The Police in the State have yet to issue a statement regarding the latest development, leaving many questions unanswered surrounding the circumstances of the abduction and subsequent release.
