UNIZIK Reacts to Viral Video of Female Student Fighting Lecturer

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has initiated a full-scale investigation following a physical altercation between a female student and a lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Michael, at the Faculty of Arts. The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu, has ordered a transparent and unbiased inquiry into the incident, which has sparked widespread discussion on social media.

According to reports, the confrontation began when Dr. Michael interrupted a video recording by the student, leading to a heated argument. In a widely circulated video, the student was seen dancing at the entrance of a campus building while being filmed. As Dr. Michael passed by, he tapped her on the shoulder to make way for himself. The student, appearing upset, questioned why he had touched her.

Tensions escalated when Dr. Michael overheard her comments and returned to address the situation. Upon realizing she was recording, he attempted to prevent being filmed, which led to a struggle. The student allegedly reacted by grabbing his clothes, biting him multiple times, and tearing his outfit.

In a statement, the university’s Acting Head of Information, Public Relations, and Protocol, Njelita Louis, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to discipline and ethical conduct. He assured that all necessary actions would be taken based on the findings of the investigation.

Dr. Michael later provided his account of the incident, explaining that he initially asked the student to step aside while he walked past. After hearing her remarks, he returned to confirm if she was his student and requested that she delete any footage showing him. As he reached for her phone, the situation reportedly escalated into violence.

The university has urged all concerned parties to remain calm as the investigation unfolds. UNIZIK emphasized that it upholds strict moral and ethical standards, ensuring that cases of misconduct are handled with fairness and due process.
