UNIZIK Lecturer Assaulted by Female Student Speaks Out
Dr. Chukwudi Michael Okoye, a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has shared his side of the story following a viral video showing an alleged altercation between him and a female student, Precious Mbakwe.
In an interview with the university’s media outlet, Dr. Okoye, who teaches in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies, recounted the incident. According to him, he was on his way to his office when he encountered Mbakwe recording a TikTok video in the corridor. He explained that he tapped her lightly and asked her to excuse him as he passed. However, he claimed that Mbakwe made an insulting remark, prompting him to return and verify if she was a student in his department. Upon realizing she was filming a TikTok video, he requested that she delete it.
Dr. Okoye stated that when Mbakwe refused to delete the video, he attempted to confiscate her phone, which escalated the situation. He said he would refrain from further comments as he awaits the outcome of the university’s investigation into the incident.
