UK Handles Around 1,500 Nigerian Visa Applications Daily – British Envoy
The United Kingdom processes approximately 1,500 visa applications from Nigeria each day, according to Richard Montgomery, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria. Speaking at the UK-Nigeria Economic Growth Conference in Abuja, Montgomery emphasized the importance of vigilance against visa fraud and urged Nigerian applicants to rely on official channels and provide accurate documentation.
Montgomery addressed concerns about visa refusals, noting that a significant number of Nigerians are still successfully receiving visas to the UK. He revealed that Nigerians account for about 10 per cent of all UK visitors annually, highlighting the strong and growing bilateral relationship between the two countries.
With the UK welcoming over 37.9 million visitors each year, Nigeria remains a key source of travelers, a trend attributed to longstanding ties between the nations. Montgomery underscored that most visa applications are approved when proper procedures are followed and the required documentation is complete. He clarified that denials are typically due to documentation issues rather than applicant eligibility.
He also outlined the various visa application options available, including standard, priority, and super priority services, and noted that legitimate business travelers can access multiple visa routes if they adhere to the correct processes.
Reaffirming the UK’s commitment to its relationship with Nigeria, Montgomery said the consistent high number of visa applications is a testament to the depth of engagement and mutual interests shared by both nations.
