UK Court Sentences Adedapo Adegbola to Life in Prison for Killing Ex-Girlfriend
A Nigerian man living in the United Kingdom, Adedapo Adegbola, has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his former girlfriend, Stephanie Irons.
At Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday, Judge Nirmal Shant KC ordered Adegbola to serve a minimum of 25 years. “You had been in a brief relationship with Stephanie Irons after meeting as colleagues,” the judge said. “Your controlling behavior led her to end the relationship. What is plain is that you were not prepared to accept that.”
On October 21, Adegbola, 40, stabbed 23-year-old Irons in the neck at her home in Mapperley, Nottinghamshire. He admitted to the killing on January 26.
Police investigations showed that Adegbola bought two knives and took a taxi to Irons’s home after work on the day of the attack. Forensic findings confirmed she died from a neck wound, while defensive injuries were found on her arms, indicating she tried to protect herself.
