UK-Based Nigerian Man Dies on Day Father Is Buried in Nigeria
The Nigerian community in the United Kingdom is mourning the death of Herbert, a UK-based Nigerian man who reportedly died on the same day his father was buried in Nigeria.
The death was confirmed by a community leader known as the Oluomo of Derby, who said the incident had affected members of the community and called for assistance for the family.
“We have lost another brother in the Nigerian community here in the UK. Tragically, he passed away on the very same day his father was being laid to rest in Nigeria,” he said.
Herbert, described by acquaintances as a quiet and family-oriented husband and father of three, reportedly died in his sleep in Thornaby, UK.
Sources within the community said he had been dealing with emotional stress following his father’s death. He was unable to travel to Nigeria for the burial but contributed financially to the funeral arrangements.
He died on the same day the burial took place in Nigeria.
His children were said to have found him at home. His wife was not present at the time.
The family is now left with three children, as well as the financial responsibility of arranging a funeral and planning the repatriation of his remains to Nigeria.
Members of the Nigerian community in the UK have started a fundraising effort to support the family with burial costs and related needs.
The Oluomo of Derby urged support for the family, saying contributions and assistance would help ease the burden on those left behind.
