Two-Week Power Outage Expected at Amukpe Substation, TCN Announces

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned two-week power outage at its Amukpe substation, starting from May 4th to May 17th, 2024. This disruption, as stated by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, aims to facilitate the safe erection of two 132KV transmission towers at the substation.

During this period, there will be no bulk power supply to Benin DisCo through several feeders including Adeje, Industrial Woodland, Mosogar, Sapele, and Abraka. TCN emphasized that the outage is crucial to ensure a safe working environment for contractors involved in the construction projects.

The erection of these transmission towers and the restringing of a portion of the Benin-Delta and Delta-Oghara 132kV double circuit transmission lines are essential steps toward enhancing the resilience of the power infrastructure. Once completed, these projects will establish N-1 redundancy, enabling TCN to supply bulk electricity to the substation from either the Benin or Ughelli transmission line in case of a fault.

While TCN acknowledges the inconvenience this outage may cause to electricity consumers in the affected areas, they assure that these projects will lead to a more flexible and consistent bulk power supply through the Amukpe transmission substation in the future.
