Two Nigerians Die of Suspected Poisoning in Libya
Two Nigerians, identified as Collins and Osas, have reportedly died in Tripoli, Libya, under circumstances believed to be linked to poisoning.
According to sources, the victims, who were residents of Misrata, travelled with a friend to Oshofana, Tripoli, on July 20. After spending a few days, the friend returned to Misrata, but Collins and Osas chose to remain in Tripoli. Days later, news emerged that both men had died from suspected food poisoning.
A relative of Collins who spoke to Punch Metro said that the account given by their friend has raised suspicion among other Nigerians in Libya. “The explanation he gave did not sit well with some people here, and they are following up with the investigation to confirm what really happened,” the source said.
The deceased were reportedly buried in Libya.
When contacted, Abdurrahman Balogun, spokesperson for the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), said the agency was not aware of the case. He added that the victims’ families could file a petition to enable the commission to take action.
This comes barely a month after two other Nigerians, Austin and Ayo, were killed by gunmen in Durban, South Africa, on July 9.
