Two Farmers Killed by IED Explosion on Borno Road
Two Nigerian farmers were killed on Sunday morning when they accidentally stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED) at Mile 40 along the Maiduguri-Monguno Road. The incident occurred at approximately 9:10 am.
The IED, believed to be planted by the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP), highlights ongoing security challenges in the region. Security analyst Zagazola Makama shared insights on social media, noting that ISWAP’s increased use of IEDs reflects their dwindling strength and capabilities.
Makama stated, “The use of IEDs is a tactic of desperation by ISWAP, indicating their lack of manpower and firepower.” He added that the group, which previously launched attacks on military bases, is now focused on defensive measures to protect their territories from military incursions.
