Tunji Disu Confirmed as Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police

The Nigeria Police Council (NPC) has officially confirmed Tunji Disu as the substantive Inspector General of Police.

The confirmation was made at the council’s Monday meeting, chaired by President Bola Tinubu.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga told State House correspondents that, under the Police Act, “there will be no need for a Senate confirmation again.” Mr Onanuga added that Disu will be sworn in by the president on Wednesday.

Mr Disu was appointed acting IGP last week after Kayode Egbetokun stepped down. Though initially set to retire next month, Disu is now expected to lead the police for a full four-year term, barring resignation or removal.
