Tribunal Verdict: This victory belongs to the people of Edo who elected Okpebholo as their governor – Nyesom Wike
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has extended his congratulations to Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State following his recent victory at the governorship election tribunal. The Edo Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, in a ruling on Wednesday, upheld Okpebholo as the legitimate winner of the September 21, 2024, governorship election. The tribunal, led by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who had contested the election result.
The petition challenged the outcome of the election, but the tribunal concluded that it lacked merit and struck it out. In his reaction, Wike, through a statement from his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, urged Governor Okpebholo to stay focused on providing good governance. He advised the governor to remain undistracted and dedicated to serving the people of Edo.
Wike described the tribunal’s ruling as a confirmation of the mandate given to Okpebholo by the people of Edo. Expressing confidence in the governor’s leadership, Wike emphasized that the victory reflected the will of the electorate. “This victory belongs to the people of Edo who elected Okpebholo as their governor,” he said. Wike further expressed his belief that the governor’s administration would bring significant relief and development to the state.
