Tragedy Strikes Algerian Football: Goalkeeper, Assistant Coach Killed in Team Bus Crash

The goalkeeper and assistant coach of a prominent Algerian top-flight club, MC El Bayadh, lost their lives in a tragic bus crash. The incident occurred as the team was en route to Tizi Ouzou for their scheduled weekend fixture against JS Kabylie.

Ten other players from the MC El Bayadh squad suffered injuries in the accident, which took place in Tiaret, approximately 150 kilometers (90 miles) from the Mediterranean coast. The Algerian Football Federation, while confirming the unfortunate incident, refrained from providing details regarding the cause of the crash.

In response to this heartbreaking loss, the national federation has taken the somber decision to call off all football matches scheduled for this weekend across the nation. This includes leagues and competitions at various levels.

As a further gesture of respect, the federation announced the postponement of the draw for the next round of Algeria’s primary cup competition. Originally set for December 26, the draw will now be rescheduled for a later date as the football community mourns the untimely departure of these two integral figures.
