Former governorship aspirant of the Labour Party in Edo State, Barrister Kenneth Imasuagbon, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking another chapter in his long-standing political career. Imasuagbon, widely known as the “Rice Man” for his philanthropic distribution of rice to the underprivileged, received his ADC membership card in Benin City, the state capital, accompanied by a large contingent of supporters.

Imasuagbon, who has previously contested elections under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the now-defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), stated that his move to the ADC was driven by a deep concern over worsening economic conditions and rising hunger in the country. He noted that the soaring cost of food, particularly rice, has hampered his ability to continue his traditional support to the poor, describing the current situation as one of “starvation” rather than mere hunger.

“No one will come from Jupiter to rescue this country. It is only Nigerians that can fix Nigeria. The cost of living has skyrocketed. I can no longer afford to buy rice for Edo people,” he said. “Nigerians are tired. Unemployment is increasing, and the naira is losing value.”

Declaring the ADC as a “credible alternative,” Imasuagbon said he was ready to commit fully to the party’s ideals and lead the push for transformative change. “I am here to join the ADC. It will take us to the promised land. We want to make Nigeria and Edo better than we met them. I am not satisfied with the level of poverty in the land. I am calling on all Nigerians to come on board. I am ready to lead the battle for change,” he added.

Edo State ADC Chairman, Kennedy Odion, welcomed Imasuagbon into the party, emphasizing that there would be no sitting on the fence ahead of the 2027 elections. He acknowledged the road ahead would be difficult, but affirmed the ADC’s commitment to building a viable political alternative in the state and the nation.
