“Tinubu Will Get Up to Two Million Votes in South-East in 2027” — Bwala
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, has predicted that the president will record a major boost in votes from the South-East in the 2027 presidential election. Speaking on a Channels Television programme on Wednesday, Bwala said Tinubu could secure up to two million votes in the region, representing at least four to six times more than the 127,370 votes he received there in 2023.
Bwala dismissed concerns about the potential impact of Labour Party’s Peter Obi, saying the former presidential candidate’s influence had declined significantly. He claimed Obi would likely not get a presidential ticket from any major party and might even miss out on a vice-presidential slot. According to him, more than half of Obi’s 2023 support base was built on “rhetoric and division” rather than political agenda, and those voters had since shifted focus.
The presidential aide argued that the South-East’s large voting population, combined with recent defections of southern governors to the APC and endorsements from governors in opposition parties, would strengthen Tinubu’s chances in the region. He insisted that these political developments would drive a substantial rise in support for the president ahead of the 2027 polls.
