“Tinubu To Meet Trump Over Christian Genocide Claims” – Bwala
President Bola Tinubu is expected to meet with United States President Donald Trump to address recent allegations of Christian genocide in Nigeria. The planned meeting, according to the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, is set to take place “in the coming days.”
Bwala announced the development on X, noting that both leaders share a strong commitment to defeating insurgency and terrorism. He commended Trump’s past support for Nigeria, recalling that the former U.S. leader authorised arms sales which, according to Bwala, Tinubu has effectively utilised in ongoing military operations against extremist groups.
“President Trump has assisted Nigeria a lot by authorising the sale of arms to Nigeria, and President Tinubu has adequately utilised the opportunity in the fight against terrorism, for which we have massive results to show,” Bwala said.
He added that the meeting would also address differing perceptions about whether terrorist attacks in Nigeria specifically target Christians or affect people of all faiths. The discussion could take place either at the State House in Abuja or at the White House in Washington, he said.
“Both President Bola Tinubu and President Donald Trump have a shared interest in the fight against insurgency and all forms of terrorism against humanity,” Bwala stated.
The announcement follows Trump’s recent threat to launch military action in Nigeria over alleged anti-Christian violence. In a fiery post on Saturday, Trump said he had directed the U.S. Department of War to “prepare for possible action” and warned that Washington would cut off all aid if the Nigerian government “continues to allow the killing of Christians.”
“The U.S. may very well go into that now disgraced country, guns-a-blazing, to completely wipe out the Islamic terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities,” Trump declared, without naming any specific groups.
He further announced plans to add Nigeria to the U.S. State Department’s list of “Countries of Particular Concern,” a designation reserved for nations accused of tolerating or engaging in religious persecution.
