US Court: Tinubu Pleads with Judge to Block Disclosure of Gender, Transcript, and Admission Records While CSU Releases Certificate to Atiku

President Bola Tinubu has reluctantly allowed a federal judge to provide his university certificate to his political opponent, Atiku Abubakar. The case, initiated by Mr. Abubakar, seeks to establish Mr. Tinubu’s eligibility for the Nigerian presidency following his election earlier this year.

President Tinubu secured victory in the Nigerian presidential election with a slim margin of 36 percent of the vote. This came after a division between Mr. Abubakar and his former running mate, Peter Obi, which split potential votes and ultimately favored Mr. Tinubu’s win. However, questions have arisen regarding President Tinubu’s eligibility, prompting the legal dispute.

Mr. Tinubu’s acceptance to release his certificate follows his recent efforts to avoid full disclosure by pleading severe harm to his life. This plea successfully led to a stay of a magistrate judge’s order on September 19. His legal team argued that there was potential harm in allowing the discovery of documents beyond his diploma.

Central to the controversy is the identity of the individual admitted to Chicago State University in the 1970s. College transcripts emerged, indicating the admission of a female Bola Tinubu from Southwest College Chicago in 1977. President Tinubu has fervently requested that Judge Nancy Maldonado block the disclosure of not only the certificate but also sensitive information such as gender and admission records.

The unfolding legal battle continues to captivate both Nigerian and international audiences as they await further developments in this high-stakes case. Details will be provided as the case progresses.
