Tinubu Challenges NLC Authority: “Wait Till 2027 to Participate in Politics,” Says You’re Not Sole Voice of Nigerians
President Bola Tinubu has rebuked the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for initiating a nationwide strike within the first nine months of his administration, labeling it as unacceptable. During the inauguration of the red line rail project in Lagos on Thursday, Tinubu asserted that the NLC is not the sole representative voice of Nigerians.
The NLC had called for a two-day nationwide mass protest on February 27 and 28, citing economic hardships faced by Nigerians. Although the protest unfolded in various parts of the country, including Abuja, the federal capital territory (FCT), the second day was later suspended, with NLC President Joe Ajaero alleging intimidation and harassment.
“The Labour union should understand that calling for a strike within nine months of an administration is unacceptable,” Tinubu stated, adding, “If you want to participate in the electoral process, wait until 2027. If not, maintain peace; you are not the only voice of Nigerians.”
Despite economic challenges, Tinubu expressed optimism, stating, “There is a very bright light at the end of the tunnel.” Emphasizing commitment to ongoing reforms, he addressed issues of corruption and smuggling, vowing to fight against these challenges for the benefit of the people.
“I asked for this job; I cannot complain. These reforms that are ongoing, we are not looking back because it is all about the people,” Tinubu affirmed. He further declared, “If it is corruption, we must exterminate it no matter how hard it is fighting back…no to corruption. Nigeria will be out of economic problems.”
