Tinubu Approves N2bn Relief for Jos Attack Victims

President Bola Tinubu has approved ₦2 billion in relief support for victims of the March 29 attack in Angwa Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

At least 28 people were killed when gunmen opened fire at a bar in the community.

The president’s special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed the intervention in a statement on Wednesday. He said the minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty alleviation, Mohammed Dorro, announced the relief package during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja.

According to the statement, the meeting brought together a 32-member delegation from Plateau and focused on finding lasting solutions to recurring violence in the state. It followed the president’s earlier commitment to engage stakeholders after the Angwa Rukuba attack.

Tinubu urged leaders in the state to prioritise peacebuilding efforts, noting Plateau’s history of coexistence among diverse communities. He called on participants to return to their communities and work collaboratively toward stability.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who spoke on behalf of the delegation, welcomed the federal government’s intervention. He described the meeting as significant, noting that it marked the first time all living former governors of the state had convened to address peace and security.

Mutfwang said the state government would implement resolutions from the meeting and sustain efforts to promote unity, adding that addressing poverty and social exclusion would be central to preventing future conflicts.

Also speaking, Da Jacob Gyang Buba called for increased military deployment, installation of CCTV systems, and renewed consideration of state policing as part of broader security reforms. He also appealed for federal support to enable displaced persons to return to their communities ahead of the rainy season.

The Plateau delegation included former governors Simon Lalong, Jonah Jang, Joshua Dariye, and Fidelis Tapgun, as well as Nentawe Yilwatda, traditional rulers, religious leaders, retired security officials, and youth representatives.
