Tinubu Appoints New NHIA Chairman
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe as the Chairman of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). The announcement was made on Sunday in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Oloriegbe, a former senator representing Kwara Central in the 9th National Assembly, will serve an initial four-year term. His appointment took effect on March 11, 2025.
With a strong background in health and governance, Oloriegbe previously chaired the Senate Committee on Health from 2019 to 2023 and also led the Joint National Assembly Committee on Health. He holds a Master’s in Coaching and Consultation from the University of Oxford, UK, and HEC, Paris, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
A respected medical professional, he is affiliated with several health organizations, including the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN), the Nigeria Venereal Disease Association, the Guild of Medical Directors of Nigeria, the International Aids Society (IAS), and the Africa Health Leadership and Management Network.
His appointment aligns with the government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare sector through experienced leadership.
