Tinubu Appoints New Governing Council Members for UniAbuja, UNN, UNIZIK

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved new appointments to the governing councils of three federal universities: the University of Abuja (UniAbuja), University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (NAU). This move follows the earlier dissolution of UniAbuja’s governing council in February, when Tinubu removed Vice-Chancellor Aisha Maikudi due to questions about her eligibility.

According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy, four new members have been appointed to the UniAbuja council. They include Rosemary Iriowen Egonmwan from the South-South region, Adedeji Adefuye from the South-West, Sarki Abba Abdulkadir from the North-West, and Aminu Mohammed Dukku from the North-East.

At UNN, two new members have been named: Ogbonna Eugene Odo from the South-East and Muhammad Inuwa Tahir from the North-West. Meanwhile, NAU’s new council members are Nkem Okeke and Ofoke Chukwuma Charles Ugbala, both from the South-East, Dame Amina Patrick Yakowa from the North-West, and Nojeeb Oriola Agunbiade from the South-West.

These appointments are part of the Tinubu administration’s broader strategy to strengthen and reposition Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
